Why Water Is Worth Protecting

I’ve always been around water.

Growing up, I spent a lot of time fishing on rivers, lakes, wherever I could get a line in the water. There’s something about it that just resets everything. The minute I hit the river or the ocean, everything slows down, and nothing else really matters.

Water has always caught my eye. And I think that’s a big part of why this work resonates with me.

Because now, instead of just enjoying it, I get to be part of protecting it, helping communities use it more efficiently, waste less of it, and ultimately do more with something that’s incredibly valuable.

That’s what drives me.

Where We’re Headed

The future of water utilities isn’t just more data.

It’s better, connected, actionable data.

The utilities that win will be the ones that can:

  • Identify problems early
  • Prioritize based on impact
  • Act with confidence

That’s where I see Olea continuing to lead.

The Bottom Line

For me, this is more than a job.

It’s about impact.

Different cities, different systems, but the same underlying issue: what you can’t see is costing you.

And once you can see it, you can fix it.

Because saving water isn’t just a job. It’s a responsibility.

And for me, it all goes back to the same place: being out on the water, knowing it’s something worth protecting.
